RT -> DMS ??

Is it possible for a radiography technician to make the move to
sonographer? What about to MRI and cat scans? How is that done? Say
an RT wants to make that move; does the RT go back to school for
another year, or does the hospital have certification programs?
On a related note, is the future of medical imaging leaning toward
ultrasound?
I've been looking on the web for information, and while I'm getting
some answers, I'm hoping for some help from those of you already in the
field (or on your way there).
